Malaysian Airlines CEO Peter Bellew has told Reuters he is willing to lease jets from Italy’s troubled Alitalia.

Alitalia entered administration proceedings last month after a restructuring bid, involving job and compensation cuts, by shareholder Etihad failed.

Meanwhile Bellew has said he wants to lease either the carrier’s A330s, B777s or a combination in a deal he expects to finalise within the next six weeks.

The leased jets would enter service in 2018, and Bellew has also said he would explore the possibility of leasing a further nine in 2019
