Reading Time: < 1 minuteAir India Express flight IX-1344 from Dubai, United Arab Emirates (DXB), to Kozhikode, India (CCJ) skidded off the runway while landing at Kozhikode Calicut International Airport and broke into two.
According to BBC, it the aircraft crashed during the second attempt to land, as the first attempt was aborted due to poor weather conditions. The heavy monsoon-season rainfall was lashing Kerala.
The airline confirmed that there were 190 people on board (184 passengers, including 10 infants, and six crew members).
According to Hardeep Singh Puri, Civil Aviation Minister in India, 18 people were killed, including two pilots. The final numbers are yet to be reported.
The rescue operations at the crash site have been already completed and a dozen of injured have been taken to hospitals.
The investigation into the accident has been launched. The Minister tweeted that Digital Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder of the ill-fated aircraft have been retrieved.
