The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the US has recommended to fine the Boeing company a $19.68 million for equipping some of its 737 aircraft with sensors which were not tested and approved.

According to the FAA statement, during the period June, 2015, and April, 2019, Boeing installed Rockwell Collins Head-up Guidance Systems containing these faulty sensors on a total of 791 aircraft, including 618 Boeing 737 NGs and 173 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

“The FAA alleges that the guidance systems in these aircraft were equipped with sensors that had not been tested or approved as being compatible with those guidance systems”, said the regulatory body.

The FAA said that Boeing violated the regulations by certifying aircraft which “were not in conformance with their type certificate”.

Boeing has 30 days to respond to the FAA.
