A bomb threat onboard a AirAsia flight at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) forced the evacuation of passengers from the aircraft.

AirAsia, in a statement today, confirmed that flight AK423 bound for Banda Acheh, Indonesia, from klia2 was grounded for security check following a disruptive guest onboard the flight.

“As a precautionary measure, a bomb threat search was conducted by the authorities and the situation was handled according to the standard operating procedures,” it said.

AirAsia said the aircraft had been declared safe by the authorities and the disruptive guest was then arrested by the authorities for further investigation.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the airport operator, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), said they had been informed by the airline about the bomb threat on board an aircraft at klia2.

It said the situation was being handled according to the standard operating procedures.

“Thus far, there has been no impact to flight operations for other aircraft,” it said.
