Embraer is poised to deliver the Phenom 100EV to the European market, with regional certification approval of Pratt & Whitney Canada’s upgraded engine received on the eve of EBACE.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved certification of the PWC617F1-E on 19 May, the agency’s web site shows.
EASA certification for the 1,730lb-thrust, two-spool engine follows Transport Canada approval last October. Embraer followed up by delivering the first Phenom 100EV equipped with the engine to an undisclosed US customer in April.
Embraer launched the Phenom 100EV last July to boost demand for the entry-level Phenom 100 after making more than 350 deliveries since 2008.
In 2014, Embraer unveiled the Phenom 100E upgrade that added a multi-function spoiler to the aircraft’s flight control system.
Embraer delivered a total of 10 Phenom 100Es last year, including eight in the second quarter alone.
By raising engine power by 35lb-thrust, Embraer expects a package of benefits. Speed rises by 17kt to 406kt. Full-fuel payload improves by 19.5kg (43lb) to 293kg.
The Phenom 100EV also features an upgraded Prodigy Touch flightdeck, with the baseline model’s Garmin G1000 upgraded to the G3000 system.
Embraer is pitching the Phenom 100EV increasingly as a lead-in trainer for airline and military pilots. Etihad, Emirates, Finnair and China Southern have all acquired the jet for pilot training.
“Although it’s a personal, entry-level jet, it looks like it’s a very professional aircraft,” Embraer says.
