Austrian Airlines Increases Number of Passengers to Almost 5.1 Million

• First half of the year 2016: Number of passengers up 2.2 percent
• June 2016: 1.1 percent increase in passenger volume to almost 1,1 million

Austrian Airlines carried almost 5.1 million passengers in the period January to June 2016, comprising a rise of 2.2 percent in a year-on-year comparison.

The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 3.7 percent to more than 11.4 billion, which can be attributed to the expansion of bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany.

On balance, Austrian Airlines sold more than 8.3 billion revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), corresponding to a rise of 1.2 percent from the previous year.

Capacity utilization (passenger load factor) fell by 1.9 percentage points to 73.2 percent.

The positive trend with respect to passenger volume also applies to the month of June 2016: Austria’s red-white-red carrier transported almost 1.1 million passengers, equaling growth of 1.1 percent from June 2015.

The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) was increased by 3.8 percent to almost 2.3 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) decreased by 1.0 percent to more than 1.7 billion.

Capacity utilization of the flights (passenger load factor) was at an average of 76.1 percent, down 3.7 percentage points compared to June 2015. The number of flights climbed by 5.4 percent in June 2016 to 12,282 flights.
