Lufthansa Group has announced that it will purchase 40 new aircraft for the group’s airlines: 20 Boeing 787-9 and 20 A350-900 planes. The delivery of new aircraft should start late 2022 and end in 2027.

The decision regarding which airline will deploy the aircraft at which hub will be made at a later date.

“In today’s session, the Lufthansa Group Executive Board also informed the Supervisory Board of the sale of six of its 14 Airbus A380 planes to Airbus. The aircraft will be leaving Lufthansa in 2022 and 2023,” the Group said in the statement.

The company explained that the size of the Airbus A380 fleet will be reduced due to economic reasons.
