Responding to the situation on the market, Lufthansa is taking further steps to optimise its current fleet. According to a statement, the airline will temporarily stop flying the entire Airbus A340-600 fleet.

Lufthansa will safely park 17 widebodies at airports in Teruel, in northeastern Spain.  These planes are not expected to take off for at least the next year to one and a half years.

“A decision on the future use of the aircraft or a possible reactivation of a maximum of ten aircraft will be taken at a later stage in time”, the airline said in the statement.

Earlier this month it was announced that Lufthansa will stop flying eleven Airbus A320s and will permanently decommission six Airbus A380s, seven A340-600s and five Boeing 747-400s.
