Embraer is increasing the maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) and wingspan of its E195-E2 jet, adding 450 nm of maximum range in standard performance.

Embraer COO-commercial aviation Luis Carlos Affonso announced the change while speaking to reporters and analysts gathered at Embraer’s headquarters in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, for the Feb. 25 rollout of its E190-E2jet.

“We are increasing the MTOW by two tons [2,000 kilos] … to improve the range and we are increasing the span of the airplane a little bit [1.4 meters] to improve the hot and high performance,” Affonso said.

The 195-E2 will have a maximum range—in standard operational performance from a non-restricted airport—of 2,450 nautical miles.

From higher elevation airports, such as Denver and Bogotá, Embraer estimates the additional nautical mile range capability will increase by 250 to 280 nautical miles, respectively.

Embraer Commercial Aviation president and CEO Paulo Cesar Silva said the first E190-E2 flight will occur “as soon as possible … in the first half of 2016,” aiming for delivery in 2018. The first flight for the E195-E2 will occur in in 2017, aiming for delivery in 2019, and first flight for the E175-E2 will happen in 2018, with deliveries expected to start in 2020.
