Cargolux Boeing 747-8 Reports Smoke and Fire in Cockpit

A Cargolux Boeing 747-8, performing flight from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Zhengzhou (China), reported smoke and fire in cockpit.

  • Aircraft was climbing out of Kuala Lumpur’s runway 32R when the crew donned their oxygen masks, declared emergency reporting smoke and fire in the cockpit, stopped the climb at FL150 and returned to Kuala Lumpur.
  • The aircraft landed safely, the runway was temporarily blocked while emergency services attended to the aircraft.
  • The crew was able to leave the aircraft unharmed. Authorities have been informed, the airline is fully cooperating with the investigation.
  • Delays were to be expected as result of the runway closure. About 2 hours later the airport informed passengers that the runway was open again.
