Reading Time: < 1 minuteIndian airline IndiGo has become a special customer to Airbus. The carrier took the delivery of 1,000th A320neo Family aircraft, to be more precise, A321neo.
India’s largest passenger airline is also the carrier having the largest amount of Airbus A320neo Family aircraft on order (430 planes in total). As for now, the airline operates the fleet of 276 aircraft including 89 A320neo, now 7 A321neo and 129 A320ceo planes.
Success of NEO
The Airbus A320neo program is a major success for Airbus. As of 30 September, 2019, Airbus succeeded in securing a total of 6,660 orders for the A320neo Family aircraft (36 for A319neo, 3,830 for A320neo, and 2,794 for A321neo correspondingly).
The 1,000th delivery, in turn, marks yet another significant milestone for the A320neo program.
In 2016 the first Airbus A320neo took off into the sky for its commercial flight operated by Lufthansa, the launch carrier for the type.
In 2017 the manufacturer handed over its first A321neo to Virgin America (now Alaska Airlines). In 2018 the first A321LR (long range) aircraft reached its launch customer Arkia Israeli Airlines.
Meanwhile, in 2019 the plane-maker shook the ground during Paris Air Show by announcing the launch of yet another program – the A321XLR (extra long-range).
Airbus A320neo Family aircraft program is the biggest rival to Boeing’s 737 MAX program. Will Airbus manage to dominate the market until 737 MAX is confirmed safe to fly and gets the permission to take off again?
