Lufthansa Technik AG opened its first Australian Cyclean® Engine Wash Service Station in Melbourne.

Lufthansa Technik now offers its Cyclean® engine wash service around the world: In North and South America, in Europe, in the Middle East, in Asia, and now in Australia.

The Cyclean® Engine Wash facility at Melbourne Airport is mounted in a vehicle, making it fully mobile, so that it can also be deployed at other nearby airports. An engine wash can be carried out as part of maintenance work, in the transit period between two flights, or overnight. The autonomous system, which does not require any external electricity or water source, gives airline customers flexibility in the planning of engine washes.

“We have already successfully carried out the first Cyclean® washes on IAE V2500 engines from an Airbus A320. But, essentially, we cater for all common models of engine.

We are currently offering our engine cleaning to various Australian airline customers for demonstration purposes”, explains Oliver C. Winter, Head of Engine Life Cycle Services at Lufthansa Technik.

In the future, Cyclean® Engine Wash will also be offered to international airlines that fly in to Melbourne and have appropriate layover times. The high demand for efficient engine cleaning means that the number of stations will keep growing. Over the medium term, the service network in Australia is to be expanded with further stations at the airports in Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane.

Cyclean® Engine Wash is up to 70 percent quicker than convention engine cleaning methods and can be carried out without restriction anywhere on the airport site. The new engine wash can be used on all engine models from the leading manufacturers General Electric, Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, CFMI, and IAE.

To date, more than 40,000 engine washes have been performed worldwide for more than 40 airline customers using Cyclean® Engine Wash. Cyclean® is the only established engine cleaning system on the market which can be carried out directly at the gate in less than an hour. Thanks to the small amount of time involved, the high fuel and emission savings, and the minimizing of engine maintenance costs, Cyclean® has become an indispensable service for many customers.
