Qatar Airways Buys a Slice of China’s Aviation Market

Qatar Airways Group Q.C.S.C. (“Qatar Airways”) announced that acquisition of 5% of China Southern Airlines comes as a part of its strategy to invest in the strongest airlines around the world and continue enhancing operations and network connectivity.

CEO of the airline sees the acquisition as an investment offering “massive potential”. The Chinese airline is not only one of the most prestigious in the country in terms of domestic operations but also an important player on a global level.

China is set to become the hub of global commercial aviation, thus strengthening positions on Chinese market is a rational step in every aspect.

Qatar Investment Strategy

This investment further supports Qatar Airways’ investment strategy which already includes its 20% investment in International Airlines Group, its 10% investment in LATAM Airlines Group, its 49% investment in Air Italy and its 9.99% investment in Cathay Pacific.
