Tara Air DHC6 Suffers a Runway Excursion on Take-off

Tara Air de Havilland DHC-6-300 Twin Otter, performing a flight from Simikot to Surkhet (Nepal) with 13 passengers and 3 crew, was accelerating for takeoff when the aircraft went off the runway and came to stop on soft ground.

The aircraft was substantially damaged, 5 occupants received serious, 11 minor injuries.

The aircraft was carrying 13 policemen who had assisted an election, 2 flight crew and a flight attendant.

Local Police reported the aircraft blew a nose tyre at about the mid point of the runway and went off the runway. The injured were airlifted to the Humla district hospital.
