Russia has donated six RAC MiG -29 fighter jets, which have been in use for more than two decades, to Serbia.

The fighter jets were delivered in three batches in a disassembled state through an AN-124 heavy transport plane to Bataiista military airfield early this month. They were assembled with the assistance of Russian experts. The fighters were displayed in the presence of Russian defence minister Sergei Shoigu and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on October 20.

Though Serbia didn’t pay anything for the aircraft, it has entered in to a maintenance agreement with Russian manufacturer for $212 million. The agreement covers the existing models in the inventory of Serbia.

Discussions regarding future upgrading of the MiG-29s are also on the table. The discussions would involve new avionics and weapons too.
